Jefferson Academy Secondary is a highly accomplished public charter school offering a Core Knowledge/Coordinated Humanities, college preparatory curriculum that encourages students to achieve their highest academic and character potential. The school is located in Broomfield, Colorado approximately midway between Denver and Boulder within the Jefferson County School District.

How do I apply for a position at Jefferson Academy Secondary?

  • For teaching positions, submit an employment application, resume, Faculty Questionnaire and two letters of recommendation to Joan Larson.

  • Download, fill out and return the application and the Faculty Questionnaire if applicable.

  • Top candidates will be asked to come to JA for both a “teaching interview” and a traditional interview with the hiring committee. Applicants who have taught at Jefferson Academy in a substitute role may not be required to teach a class.

What are the qualifications and responsibilities of JA Faculty?

First, the qualifications include the following:

  1. The minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.

  2. A valid Colorado Teacher’s license (applicable level-area endorsements preferred), or a passing score on the PLACE or PRAXIS, or classified as Highly Qualified by CDE.

  3. Professional verification via two letters of recommendation of successful classroom teacher performance and/or student teaching experience.

  4. Evidence of the willingness and the ability to comply with the standards for ethical and professional performance.

  5. Familiarity and agreement with the Core Knowledge curriculum and philosophy (junior high)

  6. Familiarity and agreement with a college preparatory educational philosophy. (high school)

Secondly, concerning responsibilities, all teachers will:

  1. Meet regular and predictable attendance requirements.

  2. Plan for and guide the learning process to help students achieve the knowledge and skills outlined in the Colorado state model standards.

  3. Maintain a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.

  4. Implement useful diagnostic and progress assessment measures.

  5. Select and use research-based instructional methods and learning materials.

  6. Establish a cooperative and respectful relationship with all assigned students and their parents.

  7. Maintain open lines of communication with student, parents, and/or guardians.

  8. Actively engage in professional growth activities through an ongoing program of job-related knowledge and skill development.

  9. Work collaboratively with colleagues and administration to achieve the overall mission and vision of Jefferson Academy.

  10. Understand and follow the JA Way which is in the document manager.

Does JA participate in PERA?

Absolutely!

Do JA faculty members get health benefits?

Yes! JA uses Jefferson County School District’s health, vision and dental benefits. Each full time staff member is given up to $500.00/month to use for any or all of these benefits. Hourly employees working 20-29 hours per week may purchase benefits if they so choose. Hourly employees working LESS than 20 hours are NOT eligible for benefits.
