Dear JA & Summit families,
We are all heartbroken and profoundly saddened by the violence at Evergreen High School today. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and all of Jeffco, JA, and Summit families, directly or indirectly impacted by this senseless act. Though we plan, practice, and work closely with law enforcement to secure our buildings and create a safe environment for your children, situations like this are shocking.
Across our various campuses, our building leaders were aware of the situation as it evolved, receiving communication and guidance from the district throughout the afternoon. Each campus was impacted differently; our Elementary and Summit campus experienced very little impact to students, our mountain school was “Secured” at the request of the district when the event started, and our Secondary moved immediately to communicate with students and staff internally as misinformation can spread quickly. I could not be more proud of how our building teams worked to stay informed while continuing to hold school in a calm and consistent manner.
As we prepare for school tomorrow, we know the impact on students and families will vary. Our campuses will be ready to support students who request to speak with someone and will also be ready to reach out to parents quickly if needed. If you feel your student needs more time to process today’s events, feel free to keep them home tomorrow. We want to ensure that students are in the best environment for them at this time. Please notify the school if you will be keeping them home.
If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to me directly at 720-432-4040 or tmatlick@jajags.com.
Sincerely,
Tim Matlick, Executive Director
